Something very exciting happened at the weekend, Intu Chapelfield invited me to Gok Wan’s One Size Fits All and to date, this has got to be the highlight of my blogging career. Intu Chapelfield sponsored the makeover section of the event and one lucky lady went home with one of their frocks, I will tell you more about that in a bit.

Not knowing what to expect, I arrived at the Mercure Hotel in Norwich and found myself with a room full of 300 plus excited ladies waiting to go in to see Gok and of course I was excited too.

So what was it all about? Well, Gok’s reason for touring the country and meeting his people really struck a chord with me and got me thinking. Gok spoke about how the fashion industry does not always love everyday women. Gok’s tour is about making ladies feel as good as he possibly can to give them some body confidence, style confidence and make them feel better about themselves. This was enough in itself to have me hanging off Gok’s every word, he connected and understood us as women. Then Gok went on to talk about his passion for preserving the high street and how the great British high street is our biggest identity, but it is struggling and if we do not do something about it, our high street will be full of boarded up closed shops.

True to Gok’s passion for preserving the high street, Gok’s One Size Fits All, is a show that gives local people a platform to showcase what they do. We saw 100 different looks on the catwalk, all from local Norfolk high street boutiques and shops. I was amazed at what was on offer from our local high street and it made me think that I need to be shopping local more. The models were all local and so very relatable as they were all different shapes and sizes, they were women just like us. Which again promoted body confidence and made the audience feel good about themselves, because these models were like everyday women. I was really impressed that runners for the show were from Norwich University of Art, what a wonderful opportunity.

There was a lingerie demo and Gok spoke about the importance of wearing the correct size bra. To be honest I cannot remember the last time I had my bra fitted. Gok spoke about shapewear and we had a giggle about that and how more often than not we are wearing the wrong size (usually it is too small). Haven’t we all got a horror story about shapewear, I certainly have. But getting it right, can make all the difference to how your outfit looks and makes you feel.

As part of the show, one lucky lady in the audience won a makeover with the style Guru himself Gok Wan-how amazing is that- (ah how I would love a makeover with Gok). Nominated by the audience we heard stories of why people thought a friend or loved one deserved a makeover. The nominations were so touching and it was quite emotional listening to these wonderful ladies stories. They all deserved one really, but we could only pick one. The winner was whisked away and given the full works, Intu Chapelfield sponsored the makeover and the lady got to keep her outfit, a beautiful raspberry coloured Issa wrap dress.

I came away beaming from spending time with Gok, although I did not talk to him personally, he connects in a way that makes you feel like he is talking to you. To be honest, I am gaga about Gok, he is such a genuine and inspiring man, who gives so much back to others.
